Stimulated Raman scattering in a multimode optical fiber with bend-induced loss

Abstract Evolution of fiber modes in stimulated Raman scattering is investigated in a 7.9 μm core multimode optical fiber which has equidistant loss-inducing bends uniformly distributed along the length of the fiber. For LP 01 excitation, there is an optimum bend-to bend distance which minimizes the macrobending loss as well as inhibit the evolution of higher order modes. The multimode fiber can thus be made to mimic a single mode fiber.
