Abstract Friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid state joining process; it is a new technique with no melting of work piece during welding. The temperature approaches but remain below the solidus temperature; hence the welds have superior properties compared to fusion weld. A parametric study was carried out to understand how the normal force and different shoulder feature effect on welding operation on AA-6082-T6 material for different input traverse speed, rotation speed by considering the different tool shoulder input forces. Concave shoulder with tapered threaded pin tool gives a most favorable result, compared with other tools such as (Flat shoulder, concentric shoulder, Scroll shoulder).
