Complex Cutting Motions

In this chapter, complex motions for cutting process in manufacturing are discussed. Based on the boundaries and domain, the switching planes and generic mappings are introduced to analyze complex motions. From generic mappings, complex cutting motions varying with system parameters are presented. The motion complexity is measured through mapping structures. Periodic cutting motions in manufacturing are predicted analytically. The motion switching is determined by force product criteria. Numerical illustrations of cutting motions near the chip seizure for the machine-tool system are given for a better understanding of complex cutting process in manufacturing.
