Medium Access Control and Network Coding for Wireless Information Flows

Research Assistant under the supervision of Professor Anthony Ephremides August 2000-Present Conducting research on physical, medium access control and network layers in wireless ad hoc and sensor networks. • Studied network information theory problems with emphasis on stability and network coding for wireless information flows in ad hoc networks. • Developed distributed medium access control algorithms for throughput and energy-efficient multi-hop operation in mobile wireless networks. • Addressed the cross-layer optimization problem of joint network coding, routing and medium access control (in conjunction with power and rate control). • Applied game theoretic tools to study the effects of selfish and malicious users in non-cooperative network operation with emphasis on cross-layer design and security in wireless networks. • Analyzed the capacity and scalability of stable throughput in wireless networks through the application of directional antennas, multiuser detection and coding.
