Instrumentation of the 40mm-projectile for roll rate and roll angle estimation

In this paper, the instrumentation of a 40mm projectile is presented based on low-cost off-the-shelf (LCOTS) components taking a significant step to make projectiles smarter. Based on the sensor data, the current state-of-the-art regarding the estimation of the roll rate as well as the roll angle is presented and discussed in terms of measurement results obtained through a firing campaign.
