Compact characterisation of ultra wideband antenna responses from frequency measurements

An approach to give a compact representation of UWB antennas using network analyser measurements and based on the extraction of poles/residues by the singularity expansion method is presented. This work focuses on a Matrix Pencil applied to the measured S 21 of two identical antenna links. It also suggests applying the MP algorithm twice (once over each causal signal present on both sides of the time response maximum). This procedure is demonstrated to fully capture the information from the time response of the synthesised antenna link, obtained after a FFT (fast Fourier transform). This allows a perfect reconstruction of the antenna time response with a minimal representation model. The measurements protocol established for experimental results validation is described.
