The need to expand, rebuild, and repair structures creates a constant demand for partial demolition and removal of concrete. In many such cases, the surrounding concrete must not be damaged and the existing reinforcing bars must remain unscathed for treatment and curing. This form of partial deomolition often involves relatively small amounts of concrete with minimum distances to sensitive areas, such as residential housing, etc. The various methods of concrete demolition are described, and the use of explosives is discussed. Miniblasting case studies are described. The repair of concrete which requires removal of concrete and exposure is also described, as well as dismantling.
