Recently, RFID system has become popular and has been growing rapidly. Due to using many readers in limited area, RFID reader collision problem occurs when the reader is interfered with the signals from neighbor readers or other devices. Even if 50 channels are available in North America, 15 channels in Europe and 25 channels in Korea are available. Moreover, in the future, if many mobile (cellular) RFID readers might be used in limited area simultaneously, the number of channels is not enough, and the collision problem might be more serious. Therefore, this paper proposes an advanced RFID system with a channel holder and dual reader sensitivities/reduced reader output power. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
