NEW ELECTRONIC CONTROLLED CONTINUOUS FLOW METERING SYSTEMS FOR AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATIONS

Four different configurations of fuel metering units applicable to automotive gasoline engine throttle body injection systems are introduced, analyzed and compared regarding their deviation from schedule linearity, dynamic response and relative cost. Since the characteristics of the pump which is used to deliver the fuel to injectors through the fuel metering system has a direct impact on the fuel flow linearity and the cost, two different pumps which are a constant displacement fuel pump driven by the engine and a constant displacement fuel pump driven by a DC electric motor, are considered in this investigation.
