The rotating magnetic field type step motor

Summary Step motors have often been used in the digital servomechanism. There are several inconvenient problems with these motors, however. Especially, high power step motors have difficulty with heat loss at a standstill because of their D C voltage excitation. In this paper, the authors propose a new type of step motor and the basic experimental results are shown with some related consideration. The principle of this new step motor enables the universal wound- rotor type induction motor to be driven as a step motor. Therefore, high power step motors have become more easily obtainable. Moreover, in this step motor, heat loss is very small at a standstill compared with conventional step motors because of its A C voltage excitation.
