Southwestern Corn Borer Control in Grain Sorghum

Granular formulations of carbofuran, methomyl, diazinon, disulfoton, and EPN ( O -elhyl O-p -nitrophenyl phenylphosphonothioate) were applied as a whorl treatment with ground equipment to R-12 variety of sorghum for control of Diatraea grandiosella (Dyar). Carbofuran and methomyl at 1.0 lb active ingredient per acre gave excellent control with yield increases of 2122 and 1769 lb per acre, respectively. Diazinon and disulfoton gave fair control, and EPN at 0.6 lb Al/acre gave poor control. In addition, carbofuran, diazinon, and disulfoton gave good green bug control.
