Large splitting and long reach passive optical networks with mode coupling receivers

A novel architecture for optical line terminal using mode coupling receiver is proposed for large-splitting/long-reach passive optical networks. 1:256-split and 40km-reach passive optical networks are demonstrated for the first time without using an optical amplifier or regenerator.
