BEAST - A BEHAVIORAL APPROACH TO SIMULATING TRAVELLERS

This paper presents a conceptual framework for a dynamic, behavioral approach to model individual travellers. The main aim of such a model is to be able to evaluate the effects of RTI on a strategic level of decision-making. Three principal choice processes are distinguished within the model: route, mode and departure time choices. The model tries to be behaviorally realistic, though it follows more normative choice approaches. Important choice elements within the model are knowledge, habit, experience, learning and uncertainty. The framework of the model is described in a non-technical manner. (A)
