Analysis of threshold values of technical and economical characteristics of small nuclear power plants

Interest in small nuclear power plant (SNPP) as one of the most promising representatives of the category of small power-generating facilities is being increasing world over. Technical and economical characteristics of SNPP will make it possible to extend the field of the use of small-scale nuclear power generation. At the same time, the economic efficiency indicators of SNPP exhibit high sensitivity to their technical and economical characteristics. Deviations of the latter from their base values can result in the change in the status of the comparative efficiency of SNPP. The analysis of the sensitivity of the economic efficiency indicators of SNPP to their technical and economical characteristics has been performed. Three projects of SNPP that are at a relatively advanced stage of implementation and represent various categories of installed generating capacity were selected. For each project of SNPP, we determined threshold values of technical and economical characteristics for which these projects would be competitive as compared to the alternatives prevailing in the field of power generation in targeted regions of their use.
