Improvement of starting-up behaviour as well as cold-start and warm-up emissions of spark ignition engines

Stricter emission limits as well as the increasing use of alternative fuels such as bioethanol present themselves as new challenges regarding starting-up behaviour of spark ignition engines. In order to meet these challenges, investigations to improve the startability and the cold start emissions were carried out at the Institute for Powertrains and Automotive Technology of the Vienna University of Technology and new approaches like throttling through cold start were found.
