A genetic algorithm based programmed PWM optimum switching pattern calculation

Programmed pulse-width modulation (PPWM) techniques have been developed by numerous authors to optimize certain cost functions defined for output voltage of the converter or its load. The main problem of almost all of them is solving complex equation. In this paper, genetic algorithm is used to find the switching angles of a PPWM controlled inverter. Proposed method is used to minimize total harmonic distortion (THD) or limit the amplitude of certain harmonics with certain constraints such as minimum switching interval. The output waveforms and their spectrum are presented to show effectiveness of the proposed method.
