High-Strength Fiber Splice Applied for Submarine Optical Fiber Cable

Submarine optical fiber cable is required to withstand great elongation during laying and recovery processes [1]. In the fabrication of this cable, the optical-fibers must pass a high-tensile proof-test to assure their mechanical reliability [2]. When high tension is applied to fibers during the proof-test, the fiber length obtained after the proof-test is limited due to fiber breakage [3]. Therefore, it is difficult for an optical-fiber as long as 50 km to survive the high-tensile proof-test.
