Strong-potential Born theory of radiative electron capture

It is shown that the impulse approximation (IA) used hitherto to describe radiative electron capture (REC) from bound states is invalid for Coulomb potentials. A more careful treatment of the off-shell Coulomb Green's function provided by the strong-potential Born (SPB) theory leads to significant corrections to the differential and total cross sections for radiative electron capture in ion-atom collisions.
