Leadership, organizational citizenship behavior, and innovation in small business: an empirical study

This paper investigates the relationships between leadership, organizational citizenship behavior, and innovation in small businesses. Multiple regression analyses of 206 small businesses found that among the three organizational citizenship behaviors, only civic virtue was found to have significant and positive relationship with innovation. Helping was found to have significant but negative relationship with innovation. No significant relationship was found between sportsmanship and innovation. The relations-oriented leadership behavior of the small business owner has significant and positive relationship with all the three organizational citizenship behaviors. Both the theoretical and practical implications of the findings were discussed.
