Modelling of Low Voltage Power Line for Long Distance Applications

Power line communications may be used as a data communication channel in public and indoor distribution networks so that it does not require the installing of new cables. Industrial low voltage distribution network may be utilized for data transfer required by the on- line condition monitoring of electric motors. PLC has been a very important interdisciplinary topic for power, communications, industrial automation and researchers. Designing and planning optimized or standard PLC systems require information and data regarding signal attenuation, load variations and communication performance for various locations of the world which have different power networks. In this study, PLC system is modelled by ABCD matrix to show its worth as a communication channel. The model is simulated using MATLAB in an effort to investigate the effects of load, frequency, line length. The signalling frequency is between 50 kHz -2 MHz and line length is taken 1000m. The channel transfer function is obtained and investigates using different line length, load and frequency.
