Spectral lines: Saving energy by design

“White goods” consume a relatively small percentage of the total residential electric power in U.S. homes. Refrigerators, freezers, room air conditioners, ranges and microwave ovens, clothes washers and dryers, and dishwashers together probably account for about one third of electric power consumption in the home. The rest goes for water and space heating, lighting, and to operate low-power entertainment and convenience devices.
