ENERGY LEVELS IN Na$sup 23$ AND Ne$sup 2$$sup 0$

The energy levels in ${\mathrm{Na}}^{23}$ and ${\mathrm{Ne}}^{20}$ have been investigated by means of the reactions ${\mathrm{Na}}^{23}(p, {p}^{\ensuremath{'}}){\mathrm{Na}}^{23}$ and ${\mathrm{Na}}^{23}(p, \ensuremath{\alpha}){\mathrm{Ne}}^{20}$. Protons with energies of 7.04, 7.17, and 7.45 Mev were accelerated with an electrostatic generator, and the reaction products were analyzed with the broad-range spectrograph at various angles between 45 and 130 degrees. Proton groups were observed corresponding to levels in ${\mathrm{Na}}^{23}$ at 0.440, 2.078, 2.393, 2.641, 2.705, 2.983, 3.678, 3.850, 3.915, 4.431, and 4.778 Mev. The ground-state $Q$ value for the ${\mathrm{Na}}^{23}(p, \ensuremath{\alpha}){\mathrm{Ne}}^{20}$ reaction was determined as 2.370\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.008 Mev. Four other alpha-particle groups were observed, corresponding to levels in ${\mathrm{Ne}}^{20}$ at 1.635, 4.248, 4.969, and 5.631 Mev.
