Near and Far Field Measurements in Industrial Environment of Passive UHF RFID Tags

In the process of manufacturing the UHF RFID Passive Tags, a very important step is testing performance and identifying the incipient faults. Achieving the requirements for the efficiency and correctness of the testing process often is a compromise between contradictory requirements – a compromise between the need for testing under conditions similar to those in the operation process on the one hand and the speed and consistency of laboratory testing on the other hand. The aim of this research is to develop a simple, inexpensive but accurate test method, with not expensive equipment and facilities, for characteristic assesment of the passive UHF RFID tags in industrial environments. It is shown that the specific problem of tag quality rapid testing, mandatory in the case of large production volumes could be overcome by establishing a correlation between near and far electromagnetic field measurements.
