Space-time turbo equalization scheme employing trellis coded modulation over frequency selective fading channels

To support bandwidth-efficient broadband systems using a single carrier transmission scheme over frequency selective fading channels, this paper proposes a new space-time turbo equalization scheme that employs trellis coded modulation (TCM). This paper aims to further improve in the spectral efficiency of the conventional soft interference canceller followed by MMSE filter (SC/MMSE) which is kind of turbo equalization technique. To this end, we introduce multilayer set-partitioning and multistage SC/MMSE. Computer simulation confirms that the proposed system is effective in improving spectral efficiency without extra bandwidth in the high symbol rate transmission. In addition, this paper also discusses the performance sensitivity of the proposed scheme to channel estimation error.
