OPTIMAL SIMULATION OF INTERMITTENTLY HEATED BUILDINGS: PART II - CONTROL

Optimization of building thermal control is possible through the application of Model Predictive Control (MPC), which calculates the optimal command from the minimization of a cost function. However, the use of the classical cost function has several downsides when it is used for thermal control. Therefore, in this paper it is proposed a new cost function for MPC. By using the proposed function, the controller assures thermal comfort in the building with minimal energy consumption. This controller is tested for an intermittently heated residential building, but it also can be used for office buildings.
