Modelling as a tool for evaluating the effects of energy-saving measures. Case study: A tumbler drier

For a better understanding of the effects of energy-saving measures in a production system, the study of an aggregate model of the system is indispensable. It is composed of sub-models that describe unit operations on a technical level of aggregation. These sub-systems exchange matter, energy and information. As an example sub-system, a tumbler for textile drying has been described. The predictions were in good agreement with experimental data. It was possible to relate these predictions with those from other models in order to obtain data concerning both detailed and global consequences of interferences in the process.
