A RESECTED CASE OF GASTRIC LEIOMYOBLASTOMA (EXTRAGASTRIC TYPE) DETECTED BY ULTRASONOGRAPHY

This paper presents a resected case of gastric leiomyoblastoma detected by abdominal ultrasonography. A 71-year-old woman consulted the hospital with appetite loss. Extracorponeal ultrasonography (US) revealed an intraabdominal tumor and CT scan confirmed that the tumor grew out of the gastric wall with extragastric development. The signs of US and CT suggested a possible malignancy of the tumor. Distal gastrectomy including the tumor was performed. Histologically it was diagnosed as leiomyoblastoma of the stomach. Some papers reported that leiomyoblastoma was malignant and other papers reported that this tumor was discovered with the sign of intraabdominal bleeding when large in size. So gastric leiomyoblastoma must be diagnosed and resected in an early stage.
