The evolution of buyer-supplier relationships in the automotive industries of emerging European economies: the case of Turkey

Abstract The relevance of taxonomies describing the evolutionary stages of automotive industries in developed economies to less well-developed economies, such as the emerging Eastern European economies, can be questioned. To answer this question a taxonomy is developed for the Turkish automotive industry paying particular attention to buyer-supplier relationships. The identified stages for Turkey correspond roughly to those for more developed economies. The analysis suggests that substantial pressures arising from the global nature of the automotive industry are allied with or mitigated by national conditions.
