Comparison of Conventional Helix with Genetic Algorithm Optimized Helix

The axial-mode helical antennas are broadband antennas. The optimization of antennas to provide radiation properties by search routines that utilizes numerical method generally consumes a considerable amount of time. The bandwidth, axial ratio, gain and size of the helical antennas can be improved by optimizing the antenna using genetic algorithm. Genetic algorithms are very useful for finding optimum antenna designs that maximize or minimize certain radiation properties. This paper compares the conventional helix with genetic Algorithm optimized. The antenna is designed on NEC2 software.
