On the resolution capacity of wideband sensor arrays: further results

The fundamental limits on the maximum number D/sub max/ of cochannel wideband emitters uniquely resolvable by a passive K-element sensor array are studied. It is shown that for uncorrelated emitters D/sub max/ is only O(K square root L), where L is the measurement time-bandwidth product. These results extend the author's recent result, that for a uniform linear array with uncorrelated cochannel wideband emitters D/sub max/ approximately=K L/2. Hence, D/sub max/ of a given array for cochannel wideband signals is essentially limited only by the observation interval, rather than by the number of sensors.<<ETX>>
