Path planning in large area monitoring by drones

In recent years, the use of drone for environmental monitoring has become one of the mainstream environmental monitoring methods. Drones are more flexible, convenient and cheaper than the previous monitoring methods, but there has not been a mainstream drone monitoring path planning method. Most of the current practice are based on intuitive decisions of the operator. Obviously, this method may not be efficient, so this paper proposes a drone monitoring path planning algorithm based on a skyline query concept. The method can help the monitoring staff to quickly plan a monitoring path and complete the monitoring with higher efficiency. Experimental simulation confirmed the validity of our method.
