THE EFFECT OF COMPULSORY SAFETY HELMETS ON MOTOR-CYCLE ACCIDENT FATALITIES

In the State of Victoria legislation has been operative since 1961 which makes the wearing of safety helmets compulsory for motor-cyclists and pillion-riders. The paper is an analysis of the effect of this legislation on the accident fatalities, making use of the statistical method of before and after studies. The results of the analysis indicate that the legislation has been and is highly successful. /Author/
