Stability behaviour of uniform columns on a class of two parameter elastic foundation

A finite element formulation is used to study the stability behaviour of uniform columns on a class of two parameter elastic foundation where the foundation constant corresponding to the shearing layer is taken to have different values in the two halves of the column. Various boundary conditions like one end clamped and the other end free, both ends clamped and both ends simply supported are considered. Numerical results are presented for various values of foundation parameters and for the variation of the foundation constant of the shearing layer.
