OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards unveiled

The OSHA's efforts to regulate hazards in the oil and gas well drilling and servicing industry are reviewed. The publication of OSHA's proposed rule on oil and gas well drilling and servicing in the Dec. 28, 1983, Federal Register marked the culmination of a joint effort by government, industry, and labor. Key points illustrate how the proposal addresses some of the special dangers in the oil and gas industry. The basic theme of the proposal is planning. Specific proposals are discussed relating to personnel accidents, deadly gases, blowouts, and materials handling.
