CIRCULATION CRITERION TO PREDICT LEADING-EDGE VORTEX BREAKDOWN OVER DELTA WINGS *

A parabolic distribution for the chordwise axial circulation distribution over slender delta wings is proposed. Leading-edge vortex breakdown locations predicted on the basis of a critical value of the circulation show good agreement with observed locations over a range of sweep angles and angles of attack. Application of the method to predict breakdown on cranked delta wings characterized by small leading edge extensions and limited changes in sweep shows reasonable results. A,B,C0 c d k P R TO s S* t
