Optimal concentration of light in turbid materials

In turbid materials such as white paint, biological tissue, and paper, spatial fluctuations in refractive index cause light to be scattered. After a few scattering events, practically all light has lost its direction, making these materials look opaque. Scattering of light is a huge problem in many optical imaging methods, where the inability of controlling the light causes a dramatic loss of efficiency and resolution deep inside turbid materials.
