Bright-Yellow Organic Light-Emitting Device Using Novel Silole Derivative as Emitter

Bright-yellow organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on a novel silole complex, 2,5-bis(9,9-dimethyl-9H-fluorene-2-yl)-1,1,3,4-teraphenylsilole (DMFPSi), were fabricated by vacuum thermal evaporation. The structures of two the devices are indium–tin-oxide (ITO)/N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD)/DMFPSi/Mg:Ag and ITO/TPD/DMFPSi/tris-(8-hydroxyquinolate)-aluminum (Alq3)/Mg:Ag, where Alq3 was used as an electron transport layer. The results demonstrate that the device made of the novel emissive material has a maximum luminance of 15,000 cd/m2 at a bias voltage of 20 V and a luminance efficiency of 1.57 lm/W at 300 cd/m2.
