Optical techniques for Gbit/s wireless indoor access

The capacity and energy consumption bottlenecks faced by Gbit/s indoor wireless communication can be alleviated by a converged indoor fiber backbone network in combination with a picocells architecture, equipped with advanced optical techniques for efficient RF carrier generation and transport, 2D radio beam steering, dynamic capacity-on-demand provisioning, and ultimately free-space 2D-steerable optical pencil beam communication.
