Cavity generation by flow separation and solid contact in a hydraulic poppet valve

In liquid machines, nuclei are newly produced each time before cavitation starts and there are two different causes for the production: one is flow separation and the other is contact motion between solid surfaces. This chapter experimentally demonstrates such cavitation inception with a concrete example of an oil hydraulic poppet valve in which both flow separation and solid contact are supposed to occur.
