Algorithm for estimation of energy consumption of industrial wireless sensor networks nodes

Industrial wireless sensor networks make use of batteries to provide mobility and low maintenance. The available energy depends on battery specification, device electrical characteristics, and communication scheduling. The development of field devices and communication protocols demands tools to verify the energy wasted along the time. Also, if such tool is embedded in the field device, it is possible to predict battery life. In this work, an energy measurement circuit for industrial wireless field device is developed and served as a reference for an energy wasting estimation algorithm. Preliminary results showed a 4% error in average by the estimation algorithm when compared to a reference circuit for measuring the total energy of sensor node during a communication period.
