The Reliability Analysis for the Piston, Connecting Rod and Crankshaft Assembly of Diesel Engine

The piston group, connecting rod and crankshaft assembly is the key system responsible for power production of internal combustion engines, and has important influence on engine performance. The reliability of the assembly of a single-cylinder diesel engine is investigated using FEA method at the maximum compression condition and the stretch condition in this paper. A quarter finite element model of the entire assembly is established by using Pro/Engineer, and is introduced to ANSYS software. Taken the thermo-mechanical coupling on piston, gas pressure loading, inertial force loading, the there-dimensional contact between each part are into account, the transmutation chart, stress map, the dangerous points of the assembly and its parts are obtained accurately. The temperature distribution, thermal deformation and thermal stress distribution of the piston are also gotten. With the FEA analysis results, the reliability of the fatigue intensity of each part is checked. The results indicate that the assembly is safety.
