An inverse problem of magnetic source localization

The localization of magnetic sources by measurements of their magnetic fields is a typical ill-posed inverse problem. Using a parametrized model, a method is described for determining the positions of a moving magnetized marker, and information about the solution uncertainty is given. The method is successfully applied to a test which involves observing the movement of a marker ingested by a volunteer. This test could provide the basis of a novel tool for non-invasive examination of gastrointestinal activity.
