Abstract A computer program is developed for the control of a chemical fixed-bed reactor. The program employs the conventional procedures of Kalman filtering and optimal control in which the reactor is modeled in state-space form through orthogonal collocation in space. The program package is applied successfully to the on-line control of an existing pilot-plant reactor for which a detailed and accurate model is available.
