Optimum Policies for a Standby System with Preventive Maintenance

This paper considers preventive maintenance policies for a standby system where preventive maintenance for an operating unit is possible but corrective maintenance for a failed unit is not. It discusses the optimum preventive maintenance policies minimizing the expected cost per unit time in the steady-state, introducing corrective replacement and preventive maintenance costs. Numerical examples are presented for k-Erlang failure time distributions.
