Baffled, Befuddled or Bemused

ABSTRACT Undergraduate college students are more confident than ever in their self-perceived skills as searchers within the environment of electronic resources. How has this confidence translated into skill with searching the library's online catalog? In fact, the catalog's unique database structure and controlled vocabulary challenge users who are more familiar with searching Yahoo. User testing provides a method for identifying the typical errors that students make and can suggest to librarians practical measures for alleviating the problems.
