Unified analysis of generalized selection combining with normalized threshold test per branch

In this paper, we introduce a novel performance analysis approach based on partitioning the probability space. This new performance analysis approach enables a unified analysis of normalized threshold generalized selection combining (NT-GSC) over generalized fading channels. To further improve the robustness of the NT-GSC combiner, we propose and analyze a generalized NT-GSC scheme referred to as N-branch plus normalized threshold generalized selection combining (TV+NT-GSC). Performance measures are obtained through the derivation of the moment generating function (MGF) of the diversity combiner output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Implementation complexity of NT-GSC and TV+NT-GSC are investigated, and the mean and variance of the number of combined branches are derived in a compact form for general fading channels
