Wind Energy Optimal Control of Variable-Speed Constant Frequency Wind Turbine

Based on the fact that wind speed follows a Weibull two-parameter distribution, the features and operating characteristics of the VSCF wind turbine were analyzed.Uses 1.5 MW VSCF wind turbine as the research object, the annual energy output optimization model for wind turbine in the specific wind resource was formulated. The optimization goal was to maximize the annual energy output as much as possible,to solve this model a modified particle swarm optimization algorithm was proposed. In comparison with the original design parameters of wind turbine, the optimization results showed obvious advantages, which verifies the feasibility and practicality of the proposed method.Meanwhile, the relationship between annual energy output and tip speed ratio when changing the shape parameter and scale parameter of Weibull distribution was discussed, respectively. It could be concluded from the simulation results that the wind energy output was more dependent on the Weibull scale parameter than the Weibull shape parameter. This implied that the wind energy output was more dependent on the mean wind speed than the speed distribution.
