FRP REINFORCING BARS IN BRIDGE DECKS: STATE OF THE ART REVIEW

Fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) are being increasingly used in the construction industry. One application is to use FRP bars as reinforcement in concrete. This report presents the state of the art on FRP bars, its constituent components, methods of fabrication, and the behavior of the composite materials. Mechanical properties, test methods, and factors affecting these properties are reviewed. Factors affecting the mechanical properties of the bars are addressed. Current applications and development of FRP reinforcement in Canada, Europe, Japan, and in the United States are also presented.
