Vector acoustic field of the ocean provides associated information about pressure and particle velocity for acoustic signal processing, of which vector phase, like acoustic intensity and phase difference etc, includes a great deal of information related to source target, for instance, target depth and range etc. And it makes source localization feasible using a single vector sensor. Due to the influences of far-field approximation error on phase difference of pressure and particle velocity signal, past methods may be only studied in theory because of its awful positioning precision. A range positioning method is proposed based on single vector sensor in this paper, which makes use of acoustic intensity in horizontal and vertical direction along with deployed depth of vector sensor to formulate the localization. This method has an excellent positioning precision and robust performance in Fraunhofer zone. In addition, a location formula of in-phase interference in Fresnel zone is deduced to give some guidance for range positioning.
