The Method for Pulse Wave Velocity Measurement Based on Chaotic Oscillator

Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) is known to be a good indicator of arterial elasticity and stiffness. To improve the accuracy and reproducibility of PWV measurement in complicated noise backgrounds, this study proposes a novel method based on Chaos Theory that calculates the aortic PWV. According to the chaotic threshold calculated by local Lyapunov exponents, it is easy to determine the characteristic point of the pulse wave – “the foot of the wave” in strong noisy, so as to measure accurately pulse transit time (PTT), as well as PWV. The experimental result demonstrates that, as compared with traditional PWV measurement methods, it features higher anti-interference capability and repeatability, increases the accuracy of PWV measurement by averaging.
